"Have you ever been in love? Horrible isn't it? It makes you so vulnerable. It opens your chest and it opens up your heart and it means that someone can get inside you and mess you up. You build up all these defenses, you build up a whole suit of armor, so that nothing can hurt you, then one stupid person, no different from any other stupid person, wanders into your stupid life...You give them a piece of you. They didn't ask for it. They did something dumb one day, like kiss you or smile at you, and then your life isn't your own anymore. Love takes hostages. It gets inside you. It eats you out and leaves you crying in the darkness, so simple a phrase like 'maybe we should be just friends' turns into a glass splinter working its way into your heart. It hurts. Not just in the imagination. Not just in the mind. It's a soul-hurt, a real gets-inside-you-and-rips-you-apart pain. I hate love."

The holiday season is a big time for box office revenues. What Hollywood releases are you looking forward to seeing in the theater this month? What would you not go see even if someone paid you?

Looking forward to seeing: The Spirit! Marley and Me might be cute, too. The two others I am looking forward to are outside of this month: Coraline (February) and Watchmen (March)

Not looking forward to: Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

I'm happy. Truly, honestly, genuinely happy.

It's been a long time since I've been able to say that.

Guinea pig mansion

So I found this site and was immediately convinced that I had totally failed in regards to housing my guinea pigs. Although their housing was not terribly cramped (yet), they were definitely not as happy where they were as they will be in their new coroplast-and-cubes mansion. Which only has the bottom level so far, but I definitely plan to expand.

And therefore, readers, for your viewing pleasure, here are some pictures of the dynamic threesome and their experiences in their new home.

And that's it for now. They seem much happier in here, wheek wheeking at me happily.

broadening horizons.

So I'm trying to broaden my horizons by reading new things, exploring new ideas, and trying out new things. Mostly because my mind tends to wander too much and I kind of want to channel it into something productive.

One of these is attempting to meditate/calm down and be alone in silence for ten minutes a day. Which - considering I play music/watch the TV almost all of the time I am awake - will be hard. But I really want to start that, because I'm hoping it'll help me tame down my often hotheaded and wild temper (unfortunately).

Anyone have any ideas for books to read, hobbies to try, or ways to try and tame a hot temper?

The Tank.

So I adopted an abandoned betta fish the other day and put him in a tank I had bought because it was on sale. I had never really planned on getting another fish out of Munch necessarily, but given that they are one of the few pets that I can be assured of being allowed to own, I thought why not? It was a $60 tank that turned out to be $12 on clearance for some reason - I think that they were phasing out the coloration or something - and so I jumped on it.

After the betta, though, I had to add more, because a five gallon tank can hold way more than just a betta fish. So today at work I picked up: two plecostomuses (one black, one lighter gray), a pineapple swordtail (male), a red velvet swordtail (female), a koi sword (female, I think), three dojo loaches (one pale gold, one bright gold with black spots, and one grayish), and about ten guppy fry. Which, I'm not sure whether or not the guppy babies will live, but I figured I'd take a lot of them, anyway, because they're just "extra" fish and so they cost nothing.

And so here is Harper's BAD ATTEMPT at taking pictures. And the tentative names of my new tank crew, even though I'm not sure how many will survive, and I am definitely not naming the guppies until they get old enough that I am sure they aren't going to get chomped down by one of my other fish when they're hungry.

Already I've noticed that the red velvet female and the pineapple swordtail male seem to be lurking with each other a lot. I wonder if this = pineapple/red velvet babies for Harper in the future. That would be kinda cool, really, although I couldn't really house them or anything, I suppose, if they had too many ... anyway.

I'll post pictures later when Photobucket is not being a jerk.

Dear Santa...

Dear Santa,

This year I've been busy!

Last Friday I bought porn for [info]houkie (-10 points). Last Wednesday I had a shoot-out with rival gang lords on the 5 near LA (-66 points). Last Monday I pulled over and changed [info]jasanni's flat tire (15 points). Last Saturday I caught a purse-snatcher who stole [info]angelkittykat's purse (30 points). In April I set [info]springtail's puppy on fire (-66 points). In July I helped [info]shiola hide a body. (-10 points).

Overall, I've been naughty (-107 points). For Christmas I deserve a spanking!

Sincerely,
whistle-kestrel
